Venice Art Biennale
Czech and Slovak pavilion
“Viva Arte Viva is an exclamation, a passionate outcry for art and the state of the artist. Viva Arte Viva is a Biennale designed with artists, by artists and for artists.”
This is a concept design for the Czech and Slovak pavilion at the Venice Art Biennale, 2017 - entitled "Viva Arte Viva".
Together with Lucia Bergamaschi, we've developed the theme of the "exile" in two ways: one material and one mental. The material way represents exile from the point o view of the people who successfully escaped the regime but found themselves far from their homeland. And the mental way represents the feelings of people who stayed, the separation of their mind from the place where they lived.
We've chosen artists from three different periods of emigration: 1948, 1968 and 1980. For each migratory flow we have involved two Czechs and two Slovakians Artists, one who remained in the country and one who escaped, for a total of twelve artists involved.
